• If you’ve never been on eBay at all you will first have to register. When you get to the eBay page, just click on Register and fill out the information.
• On the top of the eBay page, point your mouse at Sell but don’t click it. A drop-down menu will appear.
• Click on Sell an Item.
• After a window opens, click on Start Selling.
• Type in three words that describe the item you want to sell. For example, Old Seiko Clock.
• The next page will appear. Make sure you select the proper category. In this case, it is Clocks > Vintage (1930-69).
• Scroll the page down and click Continue.
• Now it’s time to fill out your Listing Form. Fill in the Title using as many keywords as possible.
• Keywords are the words that people will use to search for your item. In this case, it’s Old Seiko Clock Wood Key Wound Vintage Mantle Piece.
• Notice I covered all the bases with my keywords. Anyone would be able to find my clock whether they were looking for an old clock, a key wound clock, a mantle clock, a mantle piece, a vintage clock, etc.
• If you have more to say, go ahead and fill out the Subtitle. However, keep in mind, keywords in subtitles do not help people find it. It only helps those looking at the listing understand exactly what it is. Since it costs .50 cents, I usually don’t do a subtitle.
• Scroll down a little and click on Add pictures.
• Click Browse, and find your pictures on your computer. Pick the best one first because this is the picture everyone will see first.
• Choose the best picture deal. If you have more than 5 pictures, choose Picture Pack. If you can get away with only one picture, do it, it’s free.
• Click Upload. Your pictures will upload to eBay and you will see your listing again.
• Continue by filling out the Description. Here, you can say as much as you want, with no extra charge, so be very descriptive.
• Scroll down and choose your Starting Price.
• Choose how long you want the auction to last. Seven days is usually best.
• Scroll down and select the payment options you prefer (check, money order, Paypal).
• If you don’t yet have a Paypal account, go to Paypal.com and sign up, it’s free. you’ll need your bank account info. You can sell on eBay without Paypal, but it helps to have it.
• Scroll down and choose your Shipping Details. If you are not sure what shipping will cost, guess high, or ask your post office.
• Scroll down and click Continue. You’re almost done.
• Now notice the fees you will be charged and Review your listing. If it needs some changes, change it and click continue. If it looks good, click List Your Item.

It’s true. Five years ago, you’d pay $2500 for a 1930 Shirley Temple Doll. Nowadays, you can find them all day long on eBay for $30 to $800. And there is a very long list of similar items and results. However, there are certain times when eBay is a Sellers Market- Like Christmas time. I love Christmas on eBay. Just like many retail stores, who make most of their money during Christmas, eBay, being a virtual retail outlet, does too.


For example, you can buy a $600 laptop on eBay for $350 most of the time. But try it a week or three before christmas and you’ll pay close to $600. You could easily make a living by buying laptops all year long, then selling them starting at the first of December. And there are tons of other items that are HOT during Christmas. Another thing that worked for me was, just browse the low priced items, read some ads, and when you find one that is becing sold by an uneducated seller, ask them some questions. many times I went through this- I’d see an eBay ad that says simply electic guitar. I’d look at the ad and see there is only one picture and it’s not a very good one. I can’t even tell what brand the guitar is. So, I click on ask seller a question and ask the obvious- what kind of guitar is it? What exactly does it say on the head? Where was it made? Is it damaged? You get the idea. When he answers and says, it says Gibson, made in USA and it’s in nice condition, my hair stands up! I buy it for cheap, and when I get it, I clean it up and take some very good close-up pictures, research the model on Google, then relist it with a very accurate description and excellent pictures, utilizing all appropriate keywords in my title (nice, vintage, Gibson, Les Paul, 1976, etc.) I have been doing this for years, and it’s still easy to do. But again, you have to know the product, find the unknowing seller who doesn’t describe well and/or doesn’t take good pictures.

• She would stay at home and “man” the computer while I shopped at garage sales and auctions.
