eBay inc. began in the home of Pierre Omidyar is 1995 and is now a leader in Internet revenue. Pierre began eBay by simply selling his own items in 1995 and has grown over the years. Mr. Omidyar started eBay from his home in 1995. The first name eBay used was Echo Bay. When the company tried to register the domain name echobay.com, they found that it was already in use. They shortened the name to eBay.com and the Website was born.

As the years rolled on, the auction format took hols and others kept joining and selling. In the beginning, when the antique market was still something to behold, people were selling their rare items for small fortunes. After eBay saturated the market, and literally destroyed the antique market, selling prices came down, but sales went up. eBay has grown into the foremost online revenue generator in the history of the Internet.

You can learn eBay the old-fashioned way, through trial and error, or you can learn from the pros, and copy other, successful eBay Powersellers.

Of course, there are a lot of ways to make money online, or even sell things at other websites that some say are even better than eBay. The most popular eBay alternative is CraigList. They offer Free Advertising! You can list everything in the world for absolutely nothing. The only downfall with them is, you never know who you are dealing with. A lot of people with bad credit or no credit card, or no bank account sell on Craig’s List because they simply cannot get on eBay. So beware of shady customers. But as long as you are careful about your dealings, you will find it to be a great place to sell a car especially (since eBay charges way too much for cars.)

Other alternatives to eBay include local newspapers. Yes, eBay has become more of a Buyewrs Market lately, so sometimes you are better off buying on eBay, then selling in your local paper. Another alternative is free advertising websites. Many local radio stations offer free ads for their communities. Google Free Advertising, you’ll be surprised what you might find.

Although some of these alternatives to ebay offer lower prices, you have to weigh that against the fact that eBay has millions of viewers. Millions!

One of the best ways

One of the best ways to make money on eBay is to study current PowerSellers. Just browse around eBay until you find sellers that have tens of thousands of feedbacks. Then, look at what they sell, the way they list, the way the word their ads and titles, the way the guarantee satisfaction, etc. You can learn a lot by copying other proven winners. I studied a few powerSellers and found that some of them sell the same items over and over. It takes a lot of time to write an ad, so whenever you can simply relist something, you save a lot of time. Most of them use drop-shippers, although a lot of them buy in bulk too.

If you haven’t done it

If you haven’t done it yet, let me assure you- You can learn to sell on eBay. Selling on eBay is really very easy once you know the system. If you are already a member, all you have to do is go to eBay.com and click on Sign in. If you are not a member of eBay yet, just follow the instructions below. But make sure you take some pictures of the item you want to sell. Good pictures and an accurate description is very important.

If you’ve never been on eBay at all you will first have to register. When you get to the eBay page, just click on Register and fill out the information.

On the top of the eBay page, point your mouse at Sell but don’t click it. A drop-down menu will appear.

Click on Sell an Item.

After a window opens, click on Start Selling.

Type in three words that describe the item you want to sell. For example, Old Seiko Clock.

The next page will appear. Make sure you select the proper category. In this case, it is Clocks > Vintage (1930-69).

Scroll the page down and click Continue.

Now it’s time to fill out your Listing Form. Fill in the Title using as many keywords as possible.

Keywords are the words that people will use to search for your item. In this case, it’s Old Seiko Clock Wood Key Wound Vintage Mantle Piece.

Notice I covered all the bases with my keywords. Anyone would be able to find my clock whether they were looking for an old clock, a key wound clock, a mantle clock, a mantle piece, a vintage clock, etc.

If you have more to say, go ahead and fill out the Subtitle. However, keep in mind, keywords in subtitles do not help people find it. It only helps those looking at the listing understand exactly what it is. Since it costs .50 cents, I usually don’t do a subtitle.

Scroll down a little and click on Add pictures.

Click Browse, and find your pictures on your computer. Pick the best one first because this is the picture everyone will see first.

Choose the best picture deal. If you have more than 5 pictures, choose Picture Pack. If you can get away with only one picture, do it, it’s free.

Click Upload. Your pictures will upload to eBay and you will see your listing again.

Continue by filling out the Description. Here, you can say as much as you want, with no extra charge, so be very descriptive.

Scroll down and choose your Starting Price.

Choose how long you want the auction to last. Seven days is usually best.

Scroll down and select the payment options you prefer (check, money order, Paypal).

If you don’t yet have a Paypal account, go to Paypal.com and sign up, it’s free. you’ll need your bank account info. You can sell on eBay without Paypal, but it helps to have it.

Scroll down and choose your Shipping Details. If you are not sure what shipping will cost, guess high, or ask your post office.

Scroll down and click Continue. You’re almost done.

Now notice the fees you will be charged and Review your listing. If it needs some changes, change it and click continue. If it looks good, click List Your Item.

I’d just log into eBay and click on Advanced Search, type in gitar, and set the price low. Yes, I misspelled it on purpose. This way, I’d find some ads that were misspelled. Not too many eBay shoppers will see those ads because most shoppers will spell it correctly. Then, another great thing is, you can save your search, and check it again from time to time.

Another thing that worked for me was, just browse the low priced items, read some ads, and when you find one that is becing sold by an uneducated seller, ask them some questions. many times I went through this- I’d see an eBay ad that says simply electic guitar. I’d look at the ad and see there is only one picture and it’s not a very good one. I can’t even tell what brand the guitar is. So, I click on ask seller a question and ask the obvious- what kind of guitar is it? What exactly does it say on the head? Where was it made? Is it damaged? You get the idea. When he answers and says, it says Gibson, made in USA and it’s in nice condition, my hair stands up! I buy it for cheap, and when I get it, I clean it up and take some very good close-up pictures, research the model on Google, then relist it with a very accurate description and excellent pictures, utilizing all appropriate keywords in my title (nice, vintage, Gibson, Les Paul, 1976, etc.) I have been doing this for years, and it’s still easy to do. But again, you have to know the product, find the unknowing seller who doesn’t describe well and/or doesn’t take good pictures.

If you have already sold

If you have already sold a few items on eBay, and think you might be ready to take it to the next level, read on. As you know, a lot of people make their living on eBay. To go from part-time eBay seller, to really making a living on eBay takes some studying, but you can do it! I sold on eBay since 2000 and I made some good money a few different ways. I’m sure these will work for you too. When I began to sell on eBay back then, it was a wide open market and treasures were easily found at garage sales. Nowadays though, more and more people are doing it, so you have to get serious and get out there and look for them. It’s best to have a partner. I had my wife. Here’s what we’d do:

She would stay at home and “man” the computer while I shopped at garage sales and auctions.

When I found an interesting item, I’d call her and tell her what I saw.

She’d check eBay and see what they are selling for. You have to look at items with bids, not asking prices!

If she told me they were selling for $50 or more, and I could buy it for $10, I’d buy it.

Then we’d list it later.

I’d go to Every yard sale and auction I could. You have to really hustle if you really expect to make a living at this.

Get a good digital camera. You will definitely need one! Take notes and do research on eBay with every item you sell. This way, you can describe it accurately and know approximately what it’s worth. I got really lucky a few times and made some quick cash. but mostly, it was work. set your mind to working and you’ll do well. They don’t call it work at home for nothing- it’s work.

Another thing we did, which brought in a good income for a while was, we ran an ad in our local paper. “Let us sell your stuff on eBay.” Here’s the webpage I used to use for that. Maybe you can get some ideas from it.
